Collecting Art collecting is unquestionably one of the most fascinating of all hobbies, but the fabulous prices of paintings by the masters make it beyond the reach of all but a very few—the Fricks, the Guggen-heims, the Billy Roses, and the Edward G. Robinsons. The average person who wants to collect must turn to the work of contemporary artists, hoping that the years will attest to his judgment.

The priceless paintings of Rembrandt, Hals, Rubens, Velasquez, Goya and the other great artists of the past now hang in the museums of the world and in the homes of wealthy private collectors. The exception—if, indeed, there is any exception—is the long-lost or unknown Da Vinci that suddenly comes to light, creating an international storm among experts as to its authenticity.

Vincent Price, the actor, who is less known to the general public as an art collector, is now associated with Sears Roebuck and Company in a program that should be of great help and great interest to the beginning art collector. Mr. Price, with his vast knowledge of contemporary artists and art, is assembling a collection of paintings by living artists who, he believes, show great promise. He cannot assure you that these artists he selects will endure or that their works will multiply in value within a lifetime, as did those of a Pablo Picasso. You may be relatively sure, however, that any artist he selects has much merit.
