Dried Flower Arranging 1205787786 Lovely effects may be obtained from dried materials at Christmas, and this is the season when we like to make our homes especially gay and cheerful. In arrangements we may use candles, flowers, figurines, or other things that add to beauty. Then there are cones and pods. They are indispensable. I cannot imagine Christmas without their use.

When painted, some are hard to recognize, for they look quite different from their natural state. Indeed, wonders may be accomplished with paint and brush. I use quick-drying enamel, and paint most of my pods, cones, and leaves during the summer months. For silver effects, I like chromium paint. This does not get dull.

If you wish to use mirror metallics, apply clear shellac first. Sprinkle the metallics on while the shellac is wet. If you use paint, put on the metallics before the paint is thoroughly dry. Magnolia, laurel, and other broad-leaved evergreens take this treatment well.

If material is painted in summer, it not only dries better, but when the busy Christmas rush is on, the job is done. The painted pods, cones, and leaves last indefinitely. I have magnolia leaves, both white and red, and many other materials, that I have saved for years.
