Almost every woman sews: putting on a button, attaching the hook and eye that have become loose, fixing a hole in a pocket, or making an entire wardrobe. Some women find sewing a bore and put off these necessary chores as long as possible, but many others find it an absorbing hobby.
Sewing is easier today than it ever was before. The new sewing machines do just about everything that it is possible to do with a needle and thread: make buttonholes, sew on buttons, darning needle and thread: make buttonholes, sew on buttons, darn and mend, execute blind stitching, and produce decorative stitches. Even if you have never sewn before, you—yes, you—can produce miracles because the sewing machine manufacturers have schools or sewing circles where experts teach you how to make full use of the marvelous versatility of your machine.
Women who sew a great deal do it for the fun of it and for the great satisfaction they derive from a job well done. But beyond the reward of accomplishment, there are most pleasant bonuses: they save considerable money, and they are far better dressed than women who spend the same amount of money on ready-made clothes.
