Before proceeding,
disconnect the line cord and remove the chemical filter frame to discharge the capacitors. For further testing, the ionizer frame and collector plate must be removed.
The polarity of the rectifiers is indicated on the rectifier and must be correct. Refer to the wiring diagram. A resistance test on a rectifier should read high resistance one direction and low resistance with polarity reversed. Zero resistance would indicate a defective rectifier. A rectifier is suspect in the case of a drop even though it may test good.
A resistance test across the terminals of the resistor with the fan switch
off should read at least 900 ohms. The pushbutton switches can be tested with a VOM while in the unit.
A resistance and hot line test can be made across the connection at the resistor and terminals of the pushbutton switch to test the fan motor. Transformer output voltage can be checked by running the unit on
total filtration with the safety switches and discharge blade depressed. Set VOM on ac and 5000V and connect a lead wire from "common" on the VOM to the frame of the unit. Connect other lead from the AC5KV jack to the 2400V line connection at the capacitor. (See Fig. 5-16.) A reading of 2400V will indicate a good transformer. Before proceeding,
disconnect the line cord and discharge the capacitors with the blade.
