To test the safety switches, connect a VOM lead to a prong of the plug and a lead to the lower connection on the resistor. Depress each safety switch. If you have no reading on the VOM, try the other prong of the plug. If no reading, a safety switch is defective. A complete circuit indicates that the safety switch is good. To test the other safety switch, connect a lead to the other prong of the plug and to terminal "1" on the fan switch. Depress the safety switch. A complete reading will indicate a good safety switch. No reading will indicate an open safety switch. In these tests, a defective cord could also be responsible; however, this can be verified after removal of the inner shell, which is required to replace the cord or safety switches.
After Servicing
Check all pushbuttons for proper operation. Listen carefully to determine that there is no high-voltage arcing on the ionizer. With the unit running, raise the chemical-filter frame and listen for the arc discharge from the blade. This indicates the high-voltage system is in operation and the discharge blade is working properly, and conclude by making a ground test.
