Electrical Projects To disassemble the motor remove the front guard and slide the motor out. The field coil may separate from the rotor. Care must be taken not to lose any fiber washers located on the front and rear of the rotor shaft. The washers allow for slight end play. Tabs are often used on the front cover to hold the field coils clear of the rotor. The tabs on the rear-bearing bracket serve the same purpose. Remove the rear bearing and bracket from the field coil. In the unit shown, the front and rear bearings are secured by bending over the tabs of the bearing retainer. The bearings must be snug in position or they will cause a rattling noise in operation. Tighten the bearing retainer by removing and bending. The front bearing is part of the front cover assembly and the rear bearing is part of the bracket

Assembly

Install the rotor into the front bearing with fiber washers in place. Install the rear bearing bracket on the field coil, taking care not to damage the windings. Install the field coil into the front cover, guiding the wound fields into position with the tabs of the front cover. Install the front guard, but before tightening the nuts, plug the fan in and run the motor. If the motor does not run, tap the rotor shaft lightly to align the bearings and allow the motor to run. Then tighten the bolts evenly, making certain the motor keeps running freely. This is done to align the rotor shaft into the bearings. Install the fan blade with the web in the slot, and install the rear cover.
