The front bearing is secured by a retainer and is part of the front cover. The bearing must be snug or it will cause noise in operation. Tighten the bearing retainer by removing and bending. The rear bearing is part of the gear case.
Assembly
Install the parts in gear case in the following sequence.
a. Vertical shaft and crank with fiber washer. Apply a wipe of grease to the shaft.
b. Gear and pinion
c. Secondary gear with spacer washers
d. Clutch disc with dog into position
e. Retaining ring
Pack the gears with grease, and swing the lid back into position on the remaining part of boss. Drill a Vs" hole through the boss and secure the lid with a blind rivet. Be sure to protect the motor from metal shavings.
To reassemble the motor, first install the rotor with spacer washers into the field coil. Install the motor into the front cover, and note the position of the gear case. Finally, install the rear guard and tighten the nuts evenly with the fan running to align the front bearing.
To reassemble the rear cover, place the rear cover over the crank on the locking tab. Be certain the wiring is not damaged or hanging out of the vent in the rear cover. Install the screw on top, and install the strain relief. Install the linkage, fiber washer, and adjustment knob. Adjust the knob with fan running, so that the fan oscillates and blows straight in the locked position.
