Electrical Projects The simplest kind of fan is the standard straight blower fan, an exploded view of which is shown in Fig. 5-1. When the plug at the end of the cord is attached to a wall receptacle, the motor turns and the blade connected to the armature expels air through the front guard.

Disassembly

Many models of this type employ a strain relief which cooperates with the hole in the front cover and the hole in the rear cover to act as a lock for securing the covers together. Therefore, the strain relief must be removed first. Then remove the rear cover by prying from the hole vacated by the strain relief. The rear cover will swing off the tab lock on the opposite side. To replace the cord, clip off the insulated crimp connectors, if used, and replace with wire nuts.

The fan blade is usually friction-fitted on the rotor shaft by a compression ring on the fan hub. The fan blade can be pried off and removed through the front guard. Note if there is a slot in the rotor shaft. The fan-blade hub will then have a web to correspond with the slot. When installing the fan blade, the web in the hub must line up with the slot on the shaft. The fan blade must be pushed on the shaft until it bottoms so that the web engages the slot.
