To disassemble, remove the bumper by slipping it off the hood and pan. Lift the hood off the pan by prying the end tabs loose. Disconnect the motor lead assembly from the motor, remove the strainrelief and the loop clip. Separate the handle, cord, handle grip, switch, and corresponding parts, as an assembly, from the pan and motor assembly. Remove the hood.
The handle grip may be removed from the handle by withdrawing the single switch screw, inserting a probe such as a screwdriver between the handle and grip, and pouring a small amount of alcohol into the grip. Alternatively, it must be cut from the handle and replaced. The switch may be removed by withdrawing the remaining mounting screw and disconnecting the spade connectors. Withdraw the two screws and remove the frame cover assembly. This releases the brush holder assembly; therefore, extreme caution should be exercised to prevent the brushes and springs from flying out. Remove the brushes and brush springs. Withdraw three screws in each cover plate and remove the cover plate.
Place an Allen wrench in the spindle shaft and with a 15/16" open-end or box wrench remove the right-hand spindle head assembly. (This would be the spindle head which is on your right with the pan and motor assembly tipped on its back edge.) The spindle head must be turned in a counterclockwise direction for removal. Duplicate the above procedure for removal of the left-hand spindle head; however, it must be turned in a clockwise direction for removal. Withdraw the field bracket screw and remove the field mounting bracket. Lift the field armature, bearings, and thrust balls from the frame assembly. Remove the shims used for end-thrust adjustment from the frame. The frame may be removed from the pan by withdrawing the three mounting screws. This releases the splash guards which are between the frame and pan. The handle bracket and latch mechanism may be removed by drilling the four mounting screws from the pan assembly. The latch spring may be removed at any time after the hood is removed. The latch assembly may be removed from the handle bracket by drilling the shoulder rivet.
