Electrical Projects Humidifiers are in use around the world, especially in diy climates. As anyone who has ever awakened with diy, parched lips in a house or apartment heated by steam pipes can attest, humidifiers are useful in normally humid climates in the winter.

A simple humidifier can be constructed by hanging a damp towel in front of a fan. As the fan blows air through the pores of the towel, moisture from the towel is released into the air as water vapor. The operation of most commercially available humidifiers is not too different from this fan-and-towel method.

As shown in Fig. 5-7, a Polyurethane filter drum is slowly rotated so that the lower portion of the filter is dipped into a water reservoir. Diy air is forced through the evaporator drum, emerging from the unit as humidified air after picking up water vapor from the Polyurethane filter in the drum. The humidified air may emerge from the front of the unit or from the top. Many units employ a multispeed fan to control the flow of air, as well as a device known as a humidistat which controls the on-off operation of the humidifier according to the percentage of moisture in the surrounding air.
