Electrical Projects If the north poles of two common bar magnets are brought close together, there will be a very strong force of repulsion trying to push them apart. The north pole of a magnet is attracted to the south pole of another magnet, but repelled by the north pole.

A wire or coil of wire with an electric current flowing through it has a magnetic field around the wire. If this wire is brought near another magnetic field, the two fields will interact. The force of attraction or repulsion of magnetic fields causes electric motors to convert electrical energy to mechanical energy.
