Hobbies By this time you will probably want a telescope, if you haven't already bought one. A telescope can cost as much or as little as you want to pay. However, if you are skillful with your hands, you can keep the cost down to a minimum by building your own. That is, you can make a much better telescope than you could buy at the same cost.

It is not difficult to build a good telescope. You will find several easy-to-follow instruction books in any library. Check our bibliography for titles.

One book you must always have at your side is the The World Almanac, published annually by The New York World Telegram and Sun. Its fifty-odd pages on astronomical information give day-by-day data on the positions of the planets, on meteor showers, eclipses, and other phenomena of the heavens for the entire year. Other publications of interest are issued by various museums and planetariums, among them, the American Museum of Natural History, Central Park West and Eighty-first Street, New York 24, New York.
