Hobbies The salesman in a good camera shop is an expert on photography. He can explain the advantages and disadvantages of the many kinds of cameras he sells, and he can tell you the best camera available for your needs—at your price. Real camera bugs own several cameras, and you will often see one in a tourist group with three or four strung around his neck, together with his exposure meter, and his wife will most probably be carrying his tripod.

The salesman in the camera shop knows about this yen for several cameras and accessories, and he will give you sound advice in hopes that you will come back.

You do not have to buy a new camera. All camera shops (not corner drugstores) carry large stocks of second-hand cameras. The better shops thoroughly inspect all cameras that are traded in and overhaul them completely when necessary. Again, the salesman may be depended on for advice.

Whatever camera you decide to buy can take pictures in black-and-white, or color. Black-and-white film, which is much cheaper than color, is fine when color is not an important factor in the subject. Many subjects, however, are alive with color and they lose much when photographed in black-and-white.
