Photography may be properly classified as either a "producing" or an "acting" hobby. To us, however, it never seemed to be a making or creating hobby in the same sense that building a bookcase or painting a picture is. Of course, since the amateur photographer stores his snapshots in an album, some might designate photography as a "collecting" hobby. Actually, it does overlap into all three. Being arbitrary, we put it here.
Everywhere you look, there are suitable subjects for your camera: your family and pets at home, your friends at parties or on the beach, the scenic wonders of the Grand Canyon, the quaint and colorful French Quarter in New Orleans, the grandeur of the Rocky Mountains. You can treasure photographs of these and countless other subjects for the rest of your life.
What kind of camera? Camera addicts may scream at us for saying so, but our favorite is one of the cheap Eastman Brownies with a flash attachment. It is true that you probably cannot make pictures with a Brownie that are as good as those taken with a Leica or a Voigtlander, but more important to us is the fact that you can't make a bad picture with a Brownie.
