Household Repairs Holes in panels under doors. Make sure drainage holes in bottom of panel are clear. With your vacuum cleaner blow air through rusted-out hole into the panel. This will help to drive out moisture. Then let metal dry for 24 hours or longer if possible. Then spray two coats of Rust-Oleum 769 Red Primer into the panel with Snorkel kit sold by the paint manufacturer. When paint dries, thoroughly clean metal around rusted-out hole and wad metal screen wire into hole until wire is reasonably secure. Exposed surface of wire should not protrude beyond surface metal. Cover wire with auto body solder and build this up in thin layers until they finally overlap surrounding metal. Let dry completely. Then file and sand smooth and paint.

If screen wire cannot be readily wadded into hole, spread body solder around the outside edges, embed in it a patch of flat screen wire, and cover with more body solder. When dry, apply additional body solder to make a smooth surface.

Tears in fenders. Scrape off paint, clean metal with coarse steel wool, and roughen with a file. If edges of metal are not in line, bend straight and clamp. (In the case of very bad tears, it may be advisable to drill holes through the metal and bolt a steel mending plate or piece of galvanized flashing underneath.) Cover the tear with auto body solder. File and sand smooth when and paint.
