Household Repairs Holes, tears. Deflate ball. If rubber is heavy and appearance is not important, see tire (tube punctured). For lightweight, colored rubber, try to secure a scrap of similar material. Clean and roughen surface of ball around tear, and back of patch with sandpaper. Apply thin coat of rubber cement to both surfaces and let dry. Apply a second coat to patch and press to ball surface immediately.
