Household Repairs Slips. Belt is too loose. It should have some play, but not too much. Loosen motor from its base, move further away from machine and retighten.

Motor not running right. Belt may be too tight. There should be some slack in it but not so much that it slips. Loosen motor from its base, move toward machine and retighten.

Runs off pulley, frayed. Pulleys on motor and machine are not in line. Check with a straight edge laid across the ends of pulleys. Then loosen pulley on machine (not motor) and move into line.

Squeals. If belt is not frayed, turn off motor and rub belt with a wet cake of soap.
