Tire punctured. If location of hole is obvious (for instance, if there's a tack in the tire), wheel does not have to be removed from bicycle. First take out tire valve. Squeeze tire to unstick it from the rim. Balloon tires can now be pushed part way off the rim by hand; but with regular tires you need a tire iron. When tire is thus pushed to one side, pull out tube and patch like an automobile tire (see tire).
If location of hole is not evident, remove wheel from bicycle. Take off tire. Test tube for a leak in a tub of water and repair like an automobile tire.
Handle grips loose. Remove from handle bar and roughen bar with emery cloth. Coat with rubber cement and apply cement inside grip. Push grip back on.
Handle bar loose—easily pushed down so that grips point toward pavement. If tightening of nut at middle of handle bar doesn't correct matters, loosen the nut and shift the bar to one side. Wrap the middle of the bar with friction tape or two strips of emery cloth glued back to back. Then center bar and tighten nut.
