Household Repairs Cracked, broken. Clean metal thoroughly with steel wool. Coat edges of break liberally with plastic steel or epoxy glue and clamp together. Applying a coat of plastic steel on the outside of the break will add strength. Nevertheless, don't count on this mend's ability to withstand hard abuse.

Pitted. Clean pits with steel wool and smooth on plastic steel.

Rusted. Clean metal with a wire brush, steel wool, and liquid rust remover. Apply a rust-inhibiting primer and finish paint.
