Household Repairs Warped door wont latch. If warped on the hinge side, install a third hinge midway between those at top and bottom. If warped on the latch side, pry up the stop bead on the latch side of the frame. Close door and draw a pencil line on the frame along the inside edge of the door. Nail the stop bead along this line.

Door closes with a bang. Chances are the top slants in toward the jamb. Check with a spirit level. Then remove top hinge from jamb and reset it further away from the stop bead, or move bottom hinge further in toward the stop bead.

Door wont close because it strikes jamb on latch side. Check if there is a wide crack on hinge side. If there is, screw hinges down tighter. If this doesn't produce results, loosen hinges from jamb and insert under their inner edges thin strips of cardboard (shims). If there isn't a crack on the hinge side, door has swelled and to make it close you must shave down the hinge-side edge.

Door wont close because it binds against hinge jamb. If there is a wide crack on the latch side, loosen hinges from jamb and insert shims under their outer edges.
