Household Repairs Defective. Shut off current at fuse box. Unscrew cover plate, then take out screws and remove switch from box carefully. Unscrew wires from switch. Screw on new switch in exactly the way the old one was attached. In a three-way switch, black wire goes to the single screw; red and white wires to either of the other two side-by-side screws. When setting switch in box, make sure that screws and bare wires do not touch sides of box.
