Household Repairs Holes. Brush edges of hole with linseed oil. Fill with putty and groove lightly to match wood grain. If shingles are stained, mix matching stain into putty before applying.

Shingles cracked or warped. Loosen overlapping shingles slightly and reach up under them with a hacksaw blade and cut nails holding defective shingle. Replace with new shingle. To hold this in place, put several dabs of roofing cement on both sides near the thin end. Do not nail butts.
