Compression faucet drips. Shut off water to faucet. Unscrew large packing nut and screw out stem assembly. Unscrew old washer with screwdriver or, if head of screw is damaged, with pliers. If screw breaks off in stem, place stem in a vise and carefully drill out screw with a small metal drill. Replace old washer—and old screw if damaged—with new. Reassemble faucet.
If faucet continues to drip, the valve seat below the washer may be rough and uneven. Call in a plumber.
Compression faucet leaks around faucet stem. Turn off water, unscrew packing nut and stem assembly. Wrap graphite wicking around the stem and force it into the packing nut. Then reassemble faucet. If graphite wicking is not available, cotton string will do for a short while.
Aquaseal faucet drips. If tightening large cap nut under faucet handle does not stop drip, remove nut, lift out valve stem, take out rubber diaphragm below stem and replace with a new one.
Moen push-pull faucet drips. Take off handle escutcheon, handle and stop tube. Remove retainer clip and pull cartridge out of valve body. Replace with new cartridge and reassemble.
