Slats fall out. Check whether small rails on which the slats rest are secure. If they're not, screw them to the side rails with several more screws. The problem may also be attributable to the fact that the slats are too short. Cut new ones that are only 1/4" shorter than the space between the rails.
Boxspring sags. One or more of the bed irons (the heavy angle irons on which the spring rests) may be loose. If it cannot be tightened because screw holes are worn, remove it and install it where wood is sound.
Bedpost finial (ornamental top) broken off. Sometimes finials are integral parts of bedposts; sometimes they are separate pieces that are doweled into the posts. If the former type is broken, turn the repair job over to a professional. If the latter type is broken, saw off the dowel flush with the base of the finial. Carefully drill a hole in the finial for a new dowel. Glue dowel in finial with Weldwood plastic resin glue. Don't glue bottom end of dowel in bedpost.
