Household Repairs Drawer sticks in summer. Rub edges with paraffin. If this doesn't help, burn a light bulb inside the drawer to shrink the wood. (Don't let bulb rest on wood; keep drawer open slightly for ventilation.) Then coat all surfaces with shellac or varnish to prevent wood from soaking up moisture from the summer air.

Drawer sticks in winter. Try rubbing edges with paraffin. If this does no good, plane down the bottom edges of the sides a fraction of an inch and sand smooth.

Drawer joints loose. Pull sides apart and scrape off old glue. Apply Weldwood plastic resin glue and refit sides. Tighten with a tourniquet as shown in drawing.

Bottom of drawer loose. Remove bottom and scrape glue from edges. Also clean glue out of rabbets in the sides and front of the drawer. Spread Weldwood plastic resin glue in rabbets and set in bottom. Nail a small brad through the bottom edge of the back of the drawer into the drawer bottom. If bottom panel is loose in the rabbets, force glue-coated toothpicks into the cracks.

Bottom of drawer broken. Cut a piece of 1/8" hardboard to the size of the drawer and lay it over the old bottom. For a better job, replace the bottom entirely with hard-board or plywood of the proper thickness. Glue this in place as above.
