Slat seat in wood chair broken. It's difficult for anyone except an expert to set in a new slat. But you can make a sound seat simply by cutting a piece of %" hardboard to the size of the seat opening and gluing it to the slats with Weld-wood plastic resin glue.
Holes in upholstered seat of folding wood bridge chair. Replace with new covering. See
furniture-upholstered chair (seat of side chair torn).
Holes, tears in upholstered seat of metal chair. Unscrew the seat from the frame (if the chair is assembled in this way). Remove old fabric and use it as a pattern for the new cover. Cut, fold around seat, and tack in place. Then reset seat in frame.
In an older type of chair, the seat is slipped into a frame made of U-shaped metal. The part that forms the back of the seat frame is held to the rest of the frame by strong steel clips. Pry one of the clips loose with the claw of a hammer. Remove seat, take off cover, and cut a new cover out of vinyl fabric or leatherette. Tack to the base of the seat. Then slide seat into frame and hammer on the back channel.
