Household Repairs Bindings loose, broken. If full length of binding remains and is not too brittle, apply Elmer's waterproof glue to joint, rewrap binding over it and nail end in place with small brad. If binding needs to be replaced, soak new strip in water until pliable. Dry with a rag. Then apply waterproof glue to joint, wrap binding around it and secure with a brad.

Wicker, rattan, reed, or bamboo strips broken, split. If possible (the angle of the break and size of the material may cause trouble), coat the broken edges with Elmer's Glue-All or Duco cement and press together. To hold the ends while glue is drying and to strengthen the joint, it may be necessary also to wrap thread tightly around the break or to insert a pin (sharpened at both ends) or a wood dowel into the opposing ends.

If the broken strip is part of a rather dense weave (as is often the case with wicker), an easier solution may be simply to coat it with glue and clamp it to the other strips in the weave. The break can be further reinforced by tiny wires wound through the weave and around the broken strip.
