Household Repairs Sprayer does not hold pressure. Check gasket under top of air cylinder. If worn or distorted, replace it. If this is not the cause of trouble, examine tank for pinholes, especially in or near the bottom. Solder these if tank is copper. Seal with plastic steel otherwise.

Pump action does not produce air. Make sure that rubber diaphragm at bottom of air cylinder is not stuck to metal and that air holes are clear. For a temporary repair, pry cylinder from handle and coat leather on bottom of plunger handle with heavy grease. For a permanent repair, install new leather.

On sprayers of the Flit-gun type, pump action can be improved somewhat by pulling the plunger all the way back and squirting heavy oil through the hole near the end of the cylinder on the leather.

Spray nozzle clogs continually. Trouble may be caused by nothing more than undissolved chemicals and bits of garden debris. But it may also be caused by corrosion products in bottom of tank. In this case, partially fill with kerosene and let it soak for several days. Empty and scrape sides and bottom as well as you can with a long stiff brush or stick of wood. Soak with kerosene again. Then empty and rinse with soap and water.
