Household Repairs Frame sprung. Bend straight by hand. If this proves difficult, wrap the sprung edge with paper and squeeze it straight in a vise.

Twist-type catch hard to open or close. Wrap the two prongs, or knobs, with adhesive tape and carefully bend them slightly apart. If this proves difficult, overlapping edges can be filed down with a metal file; but of course this ruins the finish at that point.

Twist-type catch doesn't stay closed. Wrap the prongs with adhesive tape and bend toward each other. Or melt a blob of solder on one of the prongs and then file it smooth.

Spring-type catch doesn't catch. Check whether frame is bent, and if so, correct this. Otherwise, with a small metal file, open the catch as far as possible and deepen the groove which fits over the small prong on the other half of the frame.

Handle off. Sew back on. Or use appropriate glue or metal rivet.

Lining at top of handbag loose. The lining should be wedged into the channel in the frame. With a screwdriver, pry up edge of channel just enough to stick the fining back underneath. Squeeze frame back together with pliers (wrap the jaws with adhesive tape).
