Doesn't heat. Examine element to see if it is broken. If so, disconnect appliance, take out element and install a replacement in same way. Check also whether cord is broken, whether fuse on house circuit has blown, whether outlet used for hotplate is defective (just plug in a light). If these measures don't produce results, lake hotplate to service shop.
