Tears, cracks. If board is textured, there is no way of fixing it so it will look right. Replace. If board is smooth and sufficiently rigid, spread cement used in gypsum-board construction over hole and embed in it a strip of gypsum-board tape. Smooth and cover with a thin layer of cement. Let dry. Then sand smooth and spread on more cement in a wider strip. Let dry and sand again. A third application of cement may be necessary if ridge made by cement is too apparent.
Joints between boards expand and contract. This happens with changes in weather. There is no cure. Cover joints with wood molding strips.
Holes. Replace panels.
