Household Repairs Doesn't heat. Check whether fuse on house circuit has blown. Check whether outlet into which iron cord is plugged is defective (just plug in a light). Disconnect iron and examine it for a break or loose connection at terminals. Tighten connections. Replace cord if broken. If these measures don't work, take iron to service shop.

Soleplate scratched. Smooth with very fine emery cloth. Then melt beeswax on soleplate and rub it off with a clean, dry cloth.
