Note. Follow instruction-manual directions for care and adjustment of mower. But let an expert make repairs. Before calling on him, check and correct points noted below:
Doesn't start. On gasoline mower, check: Is valve on fuel tank open? Is stop-switch pushed away from spark plug? Is choke adjusted? Are you out of gas? On electric mower, check: Is there a break in the cord? Has fuse on house circuit blown?
Runs unevenly. On gasoline mower, check: Is gasoline stale, gummy? Is fuel filter clean? Is oil in crankcase at proper level and is it clean? Is oil filter clogged? Are cooling fins clogged with grass and dust? Is spark plug clean? Is it cracked? For an electric mower, see
motor, electric.
Blades rotate unevenly. Adjust tension on drive belt according to manufacturer's directions.
Rotary mower blade nicked, dull. Remove it from housing, set in a vise and file with a fine-toothed metal file. Stroke file towards the cutting edge; do not cut on return stroke.
Reel blades dull. Leave sharpening to a professional.
