Household Repairs Small scratches. Rub with very fine (10-0) sandpaper. Then wet surface with water, sprinkle on a pinch of tin oxide available from drugstore, dampen a cloth and rub briskly until shine appears.

Large scratches, pits, general roughness. The flaws can be removed only by rubbing evenly with abrasive materials of successively finer grit sizes. The job is messy and very difficult. Better call in a marble dealer or finisher.

Broken. Wash edges if dirty and let dry. Apply epoxy glue to one edge and press together for 24 hours.

Loose from wall, floor, etc. Lift out and scrape loose cement from back of marble and the base. Apply several large dabs of Miracle Adhesive to back of marble and press firmly into place.

Separated from another material. See household decorative accessories under stone.

Oil stains on marble. Soak a white blotter or thick white cloth with Vermont 50-50 Liquid Cleaner (made by Vermont Marble Co., Proctor, Vt.), lay on stain and cover with a piece of glass for 24 hours. If stain persists, mix the liquid cleaner with whiting to form a thick paste. Trowel on stain and keep paste covered with a damp cloth and piece of glass for 24 hours; then allow to dry for 24 hours.
