Household Repairs Lead doesn't hold or doesnt draw back in. The tiny metal tube which holds the lead is clogged. To get at it, wrap the tip of the pencil case with adhesive tape and unscrew it with pliers. The lead-holding tube can then be brought into view by turning the top of the pencil to the right. Stick a pin point through the slit in the side of the tube and force out the obstruction.
