Joints open, loose. Open joint wide enough to insert a thin knife or spatula. Spread in Elmer's Glue-All. Press together and tap in brad in edge of frame. To make sure corners are square, nail two strips of wood to a piece of plywood at right angles (use a carpenter's square). Set frame against these. Then nail two more strips of wood along the other sides.

Carving on gilt frame broken. Clean broken surface with a damp rag. Mix spackle with just enough water to make a thick "dough" and apply a large blob to the break. Mold roughly to shape with your fingers while still damp. Then let dry and carve to correct shape with a sharp knife. Finish with sandpaper. Paint with gold paint.
