Household Repairs Cracks, open joints. Scrape open slightly and scrub clean with detergent and water. Rinse and let dry. With a caulking gun, squeeze in synthetic rubber sealant made by Thiokol.

Fine cracks, rough areas. Scrub surface with detergent, rinse, and let dry. Brush on concrete adhesive made of epoxy resin and poly-sulfide liquid polymer.

Stains. If concrete is painted, scrub stains with household bleach or strong detergent. Try same treatment on painted concrete. If this doesn't work, see concrete.

Algae. Pour ten times normal daily amount of chlorine into pool and scrub walls and floor with a steel brush. If algae persist, call in pool contractor.

Scale deposits. Remove with sandpaper. If necessary use a power sander with medium-grit paper. Be careful not to damage the wall. If scale becomes a serious, continuing problem, consult pool contractor.
