Household Repairs Dents. If you can get at the back of the metal, hammer out dent-preferably with a hard-rubber mallet. Work from edges of dent toward the center.

Seams cracked, open. Clean well. Close seam and resolder. Use special flux and solder recommen ded for stainless steel. For how to solder, see Basic Methods: How to Solder Metal.

Steel bent. Hammering is difficult because stainless steel is very strong and resilent. Try to squeeze out bend in a vise. Or place one end of the steel piece in a vise and bend the other end by hand.

Scratched. Rub with very fine emery cloth.

Separated from another material. See household decorative accessories. If you use screws or bolts, be sure they are of stainless steel.
