Note. Don't under any circumstances try to repair a TV set. However, before calling a serviceman, there may be several points you can check and correct.
Picture has lines across it, sound is wrong. Check whether antenna lead-in
is tight at terminals in back of receiver. Look for breaks in the lead-in wire, especially where it may be mashed under a door or window. Broken wires can be cut out and ends of sound wires twisted together and soldered (see
electric cord).
Picture jitters, fades; sound noisy. Check electric cord and plug for a break. Repair as in electric cord.
Ghosts or shadows in picture. Check whether antenna is twisted and not aimed at station.
Picture too short. With a screwdriver, adjust the "vertical" and "height" screws on the back of the set. First mark their present positions with pencil lines, then turn right or left, keeping track of number of turns. You can do this safely while set is on.
Picture too narrow. With a screwdriver adjust the "horizontal" screw on the back of the set.
