Household Repairs Doesn't toast. Check whether fuse on house circuit has blown. Plug a light into outlet used for toaster to see if outlet is defective. Disconnect toaster and examine cord for a break. Replace if necessary. If these measures fail, take toaster to service shop.

Toast doem't pop up. Remove crumb tray and clean. With a vacuum cleaner blow crumbs out of inner workings. If pop-up mechanism still doesn't work, you'd better take toaster to service shop. However, you can remove outer shell by removing handles (some screws may be hidden under metal nameplates embedded in plastic handles; the nameplates are easily pried out) and unscrewing from base. Examine mechanism to see whether anything is out of place. But don't force parts.
