Household Repairs Tears. Cut a small matching patch and paste to underside of umbrella with Devcon Patch glue. Use as little of the glue as possible.

Fabric torn from the end of a steel bow. Resew the seam if it has ripped. Then sew the fabric to the tip of the bow. It may be advisable also to glue it to the tip. Use Plio-bond cement and apply to the fabric and the tip; let dry until tacky, and then stick fabric down.

Fabric needs to be replaced. Replacement covers with instructions for applying them on the frame are available from mail-order houses. But it's easier to go to an umbrella repair shop.

Bows bent. Umbrella bows are small U-shaped strips. When bent, the sides bend inward or outward. To prevent breaking the bow as you bend it straight by hand you must also bend tne sides back to their proper positions with pliers. The whole job must be done very gradually: straighten the bow a bit, then bend the sides a bit until finally the job is done.

Bows broken. Better let an expert take over. However, it is sometimes possible to join the broken pieces with a metal splint. Use a 1" to 1 1/2" length of baling wire or a finishing nail and glue this into the channel in the bow with epoxy glue.
