Doesn't work. Disconnect and examine cord for a break. Check whether plug is broken. Make necessary repairs (see
electric cord). If this doesn't work, take vacuum to service shop.
Suddenly stops after making rattling noise. Whatever caused the rattle (a nail or safety pin, for example) is jammed in the fan. Disconnect vacuum, disassemble enough to get at fan, and loosen it by turning. Object should fall out.
Doesn't pick up dirt. Remove threads wound around brush. Check whether outlet from machine into bag is clogged and poke out lint and dirt with a stiff wire. Check whether hose is similarly clogged and clean with a long wire.
Hole in bag. If bag is plastic, use a plastic-mending adhesive kit. Cut plastic patch so it overlaps hole about 1/2". Cover one side with plastic adhesive. Stick over hole on inside of bag. If bag is cloth, cover hole on inside with adhesive-backed mending tape or press-on mending tape.
Hole in hose. If hose is plastic, seal small holes with plastic-mending adhesive. If hole is large, use plastic patch and plastic adhesive as above. If hose is covered with fabric, cut a patch out of matching material. Coat one side of patch and area around hole with Devcon Patch glue. Stick on patch and let dry before using vacuum.
