Household Repairs Cracks in mortar joints. See brick.

Bricks set in sand heaved, sunken or broken. Lift out brick and make new base of sand. Tamp smooth. Set in brick and fill around it with more sand. If bricks heave or sink frequently, sand base is of insufficient depth. Remove all bricks in the area, dig out soil and provide a cushion of sand or hard cinders 3" or 4" deep.
