1. How It Began
To overcome such difficulties, the author, in collaboration with the Government of West Bengal, opened a hydroponic centre at the Experimental Station near Dar-jeeling, in India, in 1946, with the object of evolving a really simple and inexpensive method of soilless gardening suitable for use by any ordinary person without special training.
