Technique
Always start the
piercing at the top of a piece and work toward the bottom. Correctly seasoned greenware will be very firm but will cut easily, making unnecessary any hard pressure on the knife.

Equipment Needed
The greenware pieces selected to be carved should be heavily cast, to allow reasonably deep cuts without actually
piercing completely through the clay; pieces with walls about 1/4" thick permit carving to a depth of slightly more than 1/8", without overly weakening the greenware.
