Stand - Up Type Glazes, Part 3
The ware takes its name from the
port of Imari, from which it was shipped.
The piece barely resembles true Imari ware, which has very complex designs; the similarity is in the enamel-like quality of the decoration, obtained by the use of stand-up glaze.

Four - Stroke Engine
As soon as it commences its downward movement, and the intake valve starts to open, a stream of gasoline-air vapor is drawn from the carburetor, through the intake
port, and into the cylinder by virtue of the suction created by the descending piston, the exhaust valve remaining closed.

Two - Stroke Engine
As the skirt of the piston passes over the opening to the carburetor and thus seals it off, the pressure of the descending piston acts on the explosive mixture which has been drawn into the crankcase, partially compressing it, and then forcing it up the intake pipe and into the cylinder as the piston head passes the inlet
port and thus uncovers it.
